NAMBITI PLAINS ACTIVITIES

(All activities are subject to availability; prices are subject to change without prior notice)

Walking Safari (2-3 hour excursion, minimum 2 pax) – On request and subject to availability

Experience the Bush in a different way on foot. Learn how to track animals and identify spoor as well as observing the smaller things often overlooked on game drives.
Recommended for stays of 3 nights or longer. Can fit between morning and evening game drives. Bush Walks carry a minimum legal age of 16 years and any person over 65 years old should have a medical certificate of fitness.

Bass Fishing (Fully tailor-made activity, 2½ hour, minimum 2 pax) – Daily

During the summer months, the dams and rivers are alive with a variety of Large‐Mouth Bass, Small‐Mouth Bass and Tilapia. Relax and take a break for an hour or two with a rod in one hand and beverage in the other and immerse yourself in the tranquillity and sounds of the bush. Fishing is on a catch‐and‐release basis. Available at any time of the day and can fit between morning and evening game drives.

Spectacular picnic somewhere in the Nambiti Bush. Includes open game viewer transfer through the reserve, bush picnic (either on the traditional way or with table and chairs), private chef and/or host. Recommended for stays of 3 nights or longer.

Night Drive (2-hour excursion, minimum 2 pax) – Daily on request

Experience the sights and sounds of the bush at night. You will have the opportunity to see
the more elusive nocturnal animals’ resident on the Nambiti Reserve such as porcupine,
large spotted genet, jackal, aardvark and the ever-elusive leopard. Recommended for stays
of 3 nights or longer.

Star Gazing (Fully tailor-made activity, minimum 2 pax) – Daily on request

In the evening, after dinner, your guide will take the opportunity to discuss the night skies.
The Milky Way is a phenomenal sight on a clear night and the plethora of constellations such as Orion, Taurus the Bull, the Southern Cross, Scorpio and many others that will keep you in wonder.

Battlefields Tours (Fully tailor-made activity, minimum 2 pax) – Daily

The war of the Zulu Kings and the British Empire took place in the hills surrounding Nambiti Game Reserve. An important part of the British / Boer history lies within the boundaries of Nambiti as the Battle of Elandslaagte took place around and on parts of the reserve.
If you wish to explore the battlefields of this momentous occasion for a day or even for a few days for a more detailed approach the opportunity is available.

  • Tour 1 – Isandlwana and Rourkes Drift
  • Tour 2 – Battle of Blood River and Talana
  • Tour 3 – Ladysmith Siege, Battle of Colenso, Cemetry and Gun Hill and Spionkop

Join our well qualified Battlefields guide as he brings you into the story of unfolding events that occurred in various battles ranging in dates from the 1879 Anglo- Zulu wars to the 1899-1902 Anglo Boer Wars. These are full day tours with lunch in between and a fountain of information.
Recommended stay for the options below is a minimum 3 days ideally for full relaxation 4 days. Please note that with these options you do miss 2 game drives.

NAMBITI PLAINS LODGE – GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Nambiti Plains Lodge is situated in the Nambiti Game Reserve (Memorial Gate) and is roughly 3.5 hours from Durban and 4.5 hours from Johannesburg
  • Nambiti Plains is a malaria-free area
  • Recommended time of arrival is from 12h00 with check-in to the rooms from 14h00. Rooms are vacated between 10h00 and 10h30. Gates strictly open at 06h00 and close at 18h00
  • When traveling take into account that game drives usually start at 15h30 on your day of arrival and that late arrivals could possibly result in missing your first game drive. Please check with the Lodge as game drive times may vary with the seasons.
  • Lunch is usually served between 13h00 to 14h30 (times may change), however late arrivals can still enjoy a small High Tea.
  • Please contact the Lodge when passing Ladysmith as to avoid a waiting period as the Lodge is situated a distance from the gate.
  • Guests will be required to sign an indemnity form before arrival, sign in at the gate, then proceed with private vehicles to the undercover guest parking from where a guide will collect you in open safari vehicles and you will be driven to the lodge.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

  • We require 50% deposit 4 days from making the reservation in order to secure the booking.
  • Full payment is required 30 days prior to the confirmed arrival date. 

CANCELLATIONS

Cancellations must be made in writing and conditions of cancellation are as follows: 

  • Less than 14 days prior to confirmed arrival date = 100% cancellation fee 
  • 15 to 45 days prior to confirmed arrival date = 50% cancellation fee 
  • 46 or more days prior to confirmed arrival date = loss of 20% deposit 

NAMBITI PLAINS LODGE – PAYMENT DETAILS

  • Provisional bookings are held for 4 days before being released (see cancellation policy) – Nambiti Plains require a 50% deposit within this time to hold a booking.
  • Full accommodation payment to be made 30 days prior to arrival.
  • The Nambiti Reserve charge a conservation levy per person per night that will be added to the guests extras account and settled upon departure – this is a mandatory charge.
  • All payments by agents/operators for accommodation to be made via electronic bank transfer.
  • Rates are inclusive of 15% VAT and subject to change without prior notice.
  • Guests are responsible for any bank charges that may be incurred for EFT Payments.
  • International bank transfers for amounts totalling less than R25 000 will incur an additional +-R300 bank surcharge – amounts totalling more than R25 000 will incur a surcharge of 0.5% of the accommodation amount. This may vary from bank to bank and will be for your own account.
  • Extras to be settled upon departure at the Lodge and may be settled by cash, Master or Visa card only. We do not accept Diners, American Express and Cheques.
